New Car??

Well Michael and I are off tonight to test drive a couple of cars that we're thinking of. It's so hard to be in our stage because we hope to have kids in the near future and this car has got to last for a while, so what kind do ya get? That's the dilemna for us right now. I know that with Michael leading the way, we won't make the wrong decision though. Not only does he know everything about cars, but he also never makes a wrong decision since he comtemplates things forever. Anyway, it should be fun at least to drive around something new and fun for a little while. We'll see how we end up. We are thinking about the Toyota Matrix or the Pontiac Vibe which is basically the same car. The vibe has a better base model and better financing rates, but who can turn from the Toyota name? The other kind of car we're thinking about is a used Mazda Protege 5. That's probably my favorite choice. We wanted something more suited for a few kiddies. I guess I'll just have to keep everyone posted on what we do. Well I just got home from work, cleaned up, and had my visiting teachers over. Michael's just running in the house as it's totally hailing outside. It's pretty funny actually. We've got to bust it if we're going to get all of the places we've got to go. Just thought I'd update everyone. It is just pouring out there. I just thought I'd tell everyone. If I didn't have to go somewhere I would be out there right now getting soaked. I LOVE doing that! Stupid car appointments.

OK to be honest I not down with any of those. Just make sure you get a large care. - like a Honda Accord! they are HONDA - i know you love that - and BIG! I just dont like those cars for some reason - i think they look funny! BUT stick to TOYOTA for sure if you are going to get ONE of THOSE! GOOD LUCK!!

I like the pontiac or the mazda. I think they look the cutest but I know that there are other things to look at. Have fun making your choice.

It's so funny to hear everyone's reactions. We didn't pick any of these cars for looks. We picked them for room, price, gas mileage, dependibility. So yes, I know they don't look as cool, but the Ponitac has a toyota engine, so it's basically the same. Trust me, Michael would never pick a car that wasn't well built. I'm not sure what we're doing yet, but I was expecting you all not to like any of these to be honest. Oh well, when we're rich and famous we'll be able to pick something way better!

we have the mazda 6 sports wagon and we love it!! we got it used as well and got a great deal. It also has more room in it than our van does, so i use it with the kids and it's fun and sporty! good luck with your decision, just thought I would let you know how I felt about ours and also having kids in that type of car. if you want to check it out and drive one you can give me a call and you can totally come drive our if you want? 547-4042.

Melin, you need to describe "crimson red" to me. Is it more blue or yellow? I really want to use that soft yarn, but having a hard time with the color. Maybe you can take a picture and post it? I can see it in my head - a really rich red, but then finding that color yarn is not so easy. Any other complimentary colors that might work if I can't get the right red?

Hey Melinda!!! After reading your post on cars I really wanted to comment. Jared's brothers and sisters all have really nice brand new SUV's. I am talking rims and leather and dvd players. We were looking at getting something a little bigger than our small car when Sadee was born and ended up with a 2005 Dodge caravan. We got comments about our minivan and it kind of hurt my feelings. I was so excited to have a brand new bigger vehicle, but because it wasn't a Tahoe, Expedition or Yukon than it wasn't a good thing. It sounds like you guys are looking at all the most important things and don't listen to anyone else....GOOD LUCK and have FUN!!!

This is actually Gannon... not Heather. I just read your blog for the first time ever. Tell Michael that what your family needs is an Arial Atom! Just hook up a pull car for the kids to ride in. If you don't choose an Atom (for whatever reason) be well advised that my friend has a Matrix and it is a SWEET car... though truthfully does only have 1.5" more rear hip room then our corolla. Great for one child... but not so great for two. That's all I have. Much love!

To "the wrights" - Too bad you got dissed for choosing a caravan over a gas-guzzling enviro-destroyer SUV. I used to love SUV's with huge rims until I...grew up. The Caravan is the best decision for utility/functionality/practicality/wizdom/smarts/brains/sensibility. And above all, safety (in so many ways). And that's saying a lot considering I don't like domestic brands.

but SUV's with RIMS look soooo cool. I have to say.

PS - I like the Accord too, but...The Honda Accord does not have: AWD option, roof-rack, enough room to sleep two people comfortably inside, 46mpg, a 115V plug-in, a sticker-price in the low $20K.

PPS - I still love you Jeni.

Sarah, minivans are cool! I love my Dodge Caravan. Way better than an SUV. Don't let anyone tell you different.

Wow, this blog sure stirred up a lot of comments. Thanks for your support on the whole mini van thing, Michael. I've never met you, but I already like you. Next time my in laws give me a hard time about driving a mini van, I know which blog I am going to visit. I might even drive my little mini van up to Canada where I will be welcomed with open arms....jk...doesn't that sound so dramatic and mushy.

Well Victor and I have a van and no kids, and we still love it. The gas isn't bad, the seats can come out for taking things from one place or another, or watching a movie at the Drive In. Theaters are so crowded for new releases. I slept in there once when I wasn't going to do the tent thing when camping with friends, etc etc. So we have the van, when we have kids some day! But for now its fun to pile everyone in and go altogether places, instead of taking three cars when going out with friends. But have fun looking. There are many pros and cons.

Melin - I had to add that we would have been able to fit that dang table in my Mom's Odessy mini van but ofcourse we couldn't fit it in our explorer. SUV's are good for nothing! And I'm glad to hear you love square tables too!!
