Some catching up

Since I seem to recall that there were some things that happened to us in life before there were blogs...I thought I would take the opportunity to back track. These are some special pictures of great events that have happened over the last little while.

This was the weekend that dad got released as Stake President. They were fortunate enought to have Elder Oaks, and Elder Smith come to handle it all, and they both stayed at their house. We all got to meet them and chat with them for a little while, which I have to say was such a great experience. They also joined us for dinner on Sunday afternoon before heading off again.

Here's us the day we took some family pictures. We actually had never all been together since we were married.

This was truly an insane idea...but so funny.

I just think that this is a great picture of mom and her sons...finally.

And none of the pictures would have been complete without an updated shot of the Melchin clan.

I'm Baaaaack!

Well it sure has been a long time since my last post...for me that is. The computer was "broken" and Michael had to "fix" it...again. He notices problems that I swear don't really exist, and then feels the needs to "fix" them, thus the delay in entry...sorry Heather...I know breakfast can be dull without a little light reading...hehehe. However, all is now well and I have returned. I wanted to update everyone on the weekend we had last. It was a pretty classic Saturday, I slept in, and Michael washed the windows of his parent's house. He came home before finishing, and I decided to go back with him to finish up. Well they have a 2 storey walk out home, which puts the top floor pretty high from the ground. So we decided to borrow a ladder from a man in the ward, and the only one he had that would work was a 40 foot ladder. We thought...great, that will be fine. So we strapped it to the top of the truck and drove it back, and then tried to set it up at the side of the house. Well wielding the strength of this ladder was a feat in and of itself. It was HUGE. We got it up, and the window washed, and then attempted to take it down. We were so dumb. There was no way that we could get this thing down. It was 20 feet in the air, and super heavy. So I tried standing on the bottom as Michael lowered the part in the air, but I wasn't heavy enough to keep it from sliding out from under me. That freaked me out, so we tried him standing on it, but it was too heavy for me to lower, so there we were...standing there...holding it up in the air. Finally his parent's neighbour came home and rescued us, but then Michael had to do the back, so we...stupidly, moved it to the back, and tried to get going on those windows. We got it up in the air again, and got some windows done, but also had to lower it once again. SO STUPID. Michael's advice if the ladder started to fall was just to get out of the way. Oh great...thanks. Well we finally got it down and needless to say, I refused to do anymore. So we waited for reinforcements. We found Kandice and her 2 guy friends and with all of us helping we were able to get the ladder situation working. Somehow, I'm not sure if all of that was worth the money. But what would our lives be without out insanely stupid moments? On a brighter note, I bought some decorations for my house, and I must say they turned out well, I think even Lara would approve. Well tomorrow's Friday...YAY...and then on Saturday, we have a gala to go to. Our ward is doing it and we have to dress up and everything. It should be fun, and you can count on pictures. Then Sunday is a big day. First and most importantly...our anniversary...2 years under our belts. Then of course Mother's Day and Grandpa Melchin's birthday. I will surely never forget his birthday. For those of you who can't remember, here's what we looked like 2 years ago...

Slideshow

I thought I would post the slideshow I made for my parents for Christmas so that those of you who haven't had the chance to see it can! It was really fun. I gave it to mom with a whole box of kleenex and boy did she need them! It took a lot of time, and a few tears myself, but all worth it to see their reaction to the whole thing! Love you mom and dad!

Hip hip hooray

Well it's finally Friday, and I have to say I'm pretty excited. It was a long week it seemed and I'm glad to have some time to myself again. I need to clean the entire house, but other than that, there aren't any real commitments I have this weekend. That's always nice! Well I was looking at Lara's blog just now and I noticed something so funny about one of the pictures of Erik and Hannah. Don't the captions fit perfectly for the tiny expressions, and even Hannah hands? I laughed pretty hard at this! Hope you find it as funny. For those of you who don't know, these are my sister Lara's and Erin's babies! There's another one, Sarah, their age in Utah! They are all darling.

Happy Birthday to You!

Well today is mom's birthday and yesterday she threw us a party. Sounds like her doesn't it? We had a blast. She had a scavenger hunt for the kids to find thier goodie bags, we played the newlywed game with the adults (which Michael and I lost horribly) and we also danced the chicken dance. It was hilarious, the kids loved it and I think the adults enjoyed themselves more than they would care to admit. I got a little video clip I want to put on here, but I'm still working out how to do that. If anyone can lend some advice on that, I'd appretiate it. Heather??? She then treated us to chocolate molten lava cake...which was heavenly. It was truly a good time had by all! Thanks mom, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

This is Michael with our nephew Erik. Aren't they cute? Except Erik's one eye is wonky, but there aren't many pictures with Michael and the munchkins so I thought I better post it anyway!

And me with my Hannah grabbing my face. Cute girl! Those babies are sure fun to have around! This picture was actully taken by Matt who is in love with anything electronic. So my "cameeya" did the trick for him last night! Good work Matty!

Well we just got back from B.C. and it didn't take me long to get on the computer to write about it. We had a great time! We got there on Friday night and didn't do a whole lot. It was late by the time we made it. Saturday morning, Michael went and bought the fixings for eggs benedict. It was interesting since we've never made that, and poaching eggs is the not the easiest task. But, Michael enjoyed it! I opened the blinds to find some visitors. There were tons of deer, and Michael would laugh at me for taking thier pictures, but I'm a blogger obsessed what can I say? We then went to the pool, where I might add Heather would have died. There were tons of bugs. Spiders gallore, and not the tiny ones. We then beheld the sickest bug I've EVER seen. You can see the picture in the slideshow. The camera case beside it is about the size of a man's wallet. SO GROSS, but I had to document it...again blogger obsessed! We then got cleaned up and walked all over town, hitting the bakery, candystore, and movie rental place, where we finally rented A Beautiful Mind. After bbq for dinner, which consisted of chicken, shrimp cabobs, and veggie cabobs, we watched it. Michael said he liked it! We then hit the hay, and today really didn't hold much interesting things to report. We made it home pretty early, and are now about to go see some family. All in all, a great time was had!

Hitting the open road

Well not a whole lot to report for today. I'm starting to not feel too well, I think a cold might be coming on. Plus I got my teeth whitened yesterday at the office and they were super sensitive. So today I had one of the hygenists put some desensitizing liquid on them which got all over the iside of my lips so now it feels like they are all shrivelled on the inside and they also feel like it's going to peel off. Fun hey? The joys of trying to be beautiful. The worst part is that no one who comes to have the whitening done is sensitive at all. That's just the kind of luck I have I guess. The strange things always happen to me. I'm cursed.
Well Michael and I are going to head up to Invermere tomorrow. The Palmer clan has a condo in Heron Point that we all love. We're going just the 2 of us so that will be really fun. It'll be nice to just watch movies, and read books, and walk around Invermere for a while. Hopefully the pool and hot tub are up and running!
I'll take some pictures to show. It's funny how I now take my camera places I normally wouldn't just on the off chance that I might come out with something "blogworthy". Anyone else feel the same? Well...until Monday! Don't miss me too much my fellow bloggers!

Movie night in Canada

Tonight after work Michael picked me up and we drove him to his last final of the sememster!! Whooohooo! I'm a little excited to have him back for a few months. He did well, I cleaned the car and read a few chapters in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire...for the third time...(it's the best one in my opinion). Then we went to the mall to get a few things. I got 2 shirts for $20. Not bad eh?? Then we went to Blockbuster to rent A Beautiful Mind because Michael's never seen it, but it was out. Too bad...but I did get to buy 2 previously viewed movies. First, Just Like Heaven and second Pride and Prejudice. Both of which I love very much. Then I had to help my sister Kerri's newly formed blog get some sparkle...what would you guys do without me? And lastly, I learned how to use the link feature as you can probably tell by this post. Just trying to improve for my fans!! Keep that counter climbing.

Swimming swimming in my swimming pool!

Well today I took Liv swimming in my pool. It's the first time any of the kids have been in there...my bad...but it's hard to take them together because the pool is a lap pool and is 4 feet deep all the way around. So I thought I would take them one at a time for a little dip.
Liv didn't like the actual pool much, but the hot tub she loved, so that's where she spent all of her time. For those of you who don't know, Olivia is my oldest sister Lara's daughter...she's 3!

Feed the Hungry

Yesterday was a wonderful Easter for us Palmers, even though the easter bunny (who lives in Arizona) who has been my easter bunny for the last few years, seems to have forgotten where I live and so Michael and I were not part of any hunts this year. Sad. But that also means that we were not part of any major overdose of chocolate that also follows easter bunny visits. For that we are grateful. Instead, we went to Michael's brother's ward to hear Jeffrey and Emily give talks. We have church at the same time so no one else in the family could really go so we thought we would. They both did wonderful jobs! We then rushed over to our ward, which was running over time, in order to teach our Sunday School class (the 16/17 year olds). We were standing out in the foyer waiting for Sacrament Meeting to end. My father in law (and the Bishop) was wrapping up the meeting and talking about some of the missionaries he's been able to see come and go, and pointing out some of then who were in the audience when he decided to point out his son, Michael. He said "and my son Michael...Where is my son?" Everyone laughed inside, and there we were outside the door. What are the chances? Of all the days he chooses to point out Michael. We had a good laugh. Then our class went well. Michael is a great teacher. The only thing that was bad happened when the Sunday School President entered the picture. He thinks poorly of us because he thinks we are always running late. We thought we should end at 5 after the hour, and so we did, for months. Then he came in and stood at the back of a class we had one Sunday, and waited for us to wrap up. He then scolded us for being late. We told him we didn't know we were late and he said that we were to end right on the hour. So, even though we were right, we obliged. I guess yesterday we were late again because at the end of the lesson, I was bearing my testimony, and in he walked, let the door slam, and then he just stood and stared at us. It made me so mad. He's just so rude about it. It just makes me want to run late to tick him off.

Anyway, back to the title of this blog. What I really wanted to write about was what we got to do yesterday. We were able to join our ward, and Bow Valley Ward in serving dinner to those less fortunate downtown at St. Mary's Cathedral. It was quite the experience for me. The room was smaller than I thought it would be, but the line of people to get in was not! There were so many people there. It was hardest to see the families walk in. Those little children. It was a great experience to give of our time to help. It was a good easter, the easter bunny brought us that opportunity instead of a basket!

My mom's rolemodel for me

Ever since I can remember...that is once I grew 3 feet in less than a year...my mom has been telling me to stand up straight. She would tell me to be proud of my height and to put my shoulders back and show it off. She would often bring me picutures of Princess Diana to show me how she stood...being just as tall as I am. So when we were in Las Vegas last summer I couldn't pass up the chance to pose with the woman (or wax woman-at Madame Tussade's) my mom thought I should emulate. So mom, this one's for you.

Risky business in Mexico

While we were in Costa Maya, Mexico on the cruise we rented a boat from this little company on the beach in order to go snorkelling. We all boarded the boat and waited with baited breath to get under way. The man taking us was setting everything up to depart, and this is finally what we realized was going. His method of fueling up is a little bit different from what you might see up here as Jeffrey has clearly labelled for us...

So I found this picture on my memory card that came in our video camera. I didn't even know it existed, but it made me laugh so I thought I would pass it on. It's taken at Sean's office, where I work right as we were getting ourselves settled. Nothing much new going on with me here. Just working, and getting really excited about the long days. I think it was around 9 when the last dreggs of sunlight were drifting away. I'm sure dad could tell me the exact time...

As you probably tell we have tons of pictures. I just thought I would try to share my favorites so as not to bore you all to death! As you can probably also tell, I figured out how to do the slideshow...after I had posted all of the other pics. Hehe!

Cruising on the 'dam' ship...Westerdam that is...

This is us strolling down the beach in Half Moon Cay, Bahamas. This was the last port we stopped at and as you can hopefully tell, absolutley beautiful. There is no way the picture could ever capture just how pretty it was. The sand felt like flour on your feet, and even though the water was chilly (think Windermere at it's best) the color more than made up for it. This was by far my favorite beach!

This is the same port, just a more specified photo spot. This island is owned by our cruise line (Holland America), so there's not much there, but they've set it up perfectly for a wonderful day at the beach. Some shopping, food, bar, and many excursions you can book.

If you can believe it, this is us actually holding a sting ray. Michael says I'm hogging it, but trust me all I was doing was following the guys instructions carefully. This thing was huge, and squishy. I guess that's the best way I can describe it. It was one of the coolest things I've ever done though. We also got to snorkel around the same are...which is called Sting Ray City...and see tons more. At one point Kandice and I were swimming right above 5 of these guys.

Here I am all decked out in my gear in Montego Bay, Jamaica. There were a few things to see, but not the best we got to experience. At least I was looking my best!!

This is us actually on the first day at sea. We lounged around the pool for hours, and I marvelled at being surrounded by only water. That was one of the things I thought would be so amazing, and I wasn't disappointed

Picture Perfect

Well, I can honestly say I thought it would be a long ways down the road before I fulfilled my life long dream of cruising through the Caribbean. This is me on our cruise ship...the Westerdam...just off the port in Montego Bay, Jamaica. It was truely a beautiful sunset. I must admit, I've seen some nice ones in my day, but nothing can compare to the sun setting over the ocean. We miss so much when it sets behind our beautiful mountains. Well since Jeni made fun of my first attempt at a blog post, I thought I would make this one my official first post. I hope to figure this out a bit more and add tons more to this site.
